Google settle click fraud case

What does this mean for the Search Engine giant?

Judge Joe Griffin has ordered google to pay the claimant $4.50 for every $1,000 spent on advertising with Google Adwords.

Will we now see a landslide of people jumping on the bandwagon to take advantage of this ruling?

French iTunes Law Rejected

The French Constituitional Council has reject the law which would have forced Apple to make music from it’s online shop playable on any device.

So may think this is a God sent, but personally, I think it is only fair that the music can be played on any device.

I personally think it is anti competitive to only be able to play the tracks purchased from the iTunes store on an iPod. But hey… why does it matter what I think, it doesn’t seem to bother the millions of iPod owners!

Ruud’s gone to Real Madrid

It’s a sad day for Man United supporters as Ruud Van Nistelrooy leaves Old Trafford for Real Madrid.

No-one can deny that of late Ruud hasn’t been on top form. In fact some would say that he hasn’t been the same David Beckham left Old Trafford.

But Ruud has been one of the premierships top scorers every season since David Beckham left for Real Madrid.

I was surprised to see that there are so many Man United fan that are glad to see the back of him. I just can’t comprehend why they feel this way?

Yes, he had a poor second half of last season, but he still got the goals when we needed them.

What was more surprsing was the price he has apparently left for…. STG£10m - what’s that all about?

Fergie… please go….. leave us now before you do a Graeme Sounness on us!

Meta Tag abusers could end up in jail

The US has passed a law which could leave meta tag abusers facing up to 20 years in jail.

The law is designed to stop sites with offensive material from attracting visitors under false pretences. It is aimed at sites that draw children to websites (with keywords such as names of games etc.) that have material not suitable for viewing by children.

The law states, “Whoever knowingly embeds words or digital images into the source code of a website with the intent to deceive a person into viewing material constituting obscenity shall be fined under this title and imprisoned for not more than 10 years.” and.. “Whoever knowingly embeds words or digital images into the source code of a website with the intent to deceive a minor into viewing material harmful to minors on the internet shall be fined under this title and imprisoned for not more than 20 years.”

Alex reckons United are good enough!

alex-ferguson.jpgManchester United have yet to make any major signings this summer and the fans are getting worried!

However, Alex Ferguson reckons the team we currently have is good enough to challenge for the title this season…. It’s affirmative, Alex has lost the plot….

How can he think that we can compete against the likes of Chelsea to regain the title? Not only do we have the likelyhood of relying on Darren Ferguson again this season in Midfield, but we are also letting one of the best strikers to ever don a Man United jersey to leave Old Trafford.

Apparently Ferguson has €75m to play around with this season and yet he has no plans for it except to try and lure Michael Carrick from Tottenham… what an awe inspiring signing that would be eh?

I reckon he’s going to try keep this money to spend on his retirement party at the end of the season ;)

But one good thing did come over Man United’s 3 nil will over Celtic last night, Paul Scholes. He scored twice last night and showed some of the great flair that we have missed all last season at old trafford. I look forward to seeing him line up at the start of the season!

Google launch invalid click tool for Google Adwords

Google have announced the launch of a new tool for Google advertisers that will allow them to view the amount of suspected fraudulent clicks within their Adwords account.

Google still insist that fraudulent clicks are not an issue, however anyone that has spent a lot of money on a Google adwords campaign seems to think the opposite.

google-fraud.gif

Google say that all fraudulent clicks are filtered in real-time so that the advertiser is never charged for the clicks.

Personally, I’d love to know how they are determinig which clicks are fradulent…..

Duff sold for £5 million

Newcastle release a statement to the stock exchange saying the purchase of Damien Duff had only cost them £5m.

Quite an extraordinary price when you consider Chelsea bought him for £17 million!

What a great deal for the Toons, I imagine Martin Jol is bitterly disappointed at missing out on Duff after all his hard work!

I can’t believe Man United didn’t seem interested again…..

Is video advertising the way forward?

Over the last couple of months, there has been a growing trend among website owners to use video snippets on their homepage. In fact, enquiries into this facility are growing on a weekly basis.

So is it worthwhile? Should every company do this? Will it increase sales?

Although a lot of online marketing people are touting this as the next big thing in Internet marketing terms. I personally, am still undecided as to how beneficial this can be. On one hand, if done properly it could generate a lot of traffic to a website, but is it the type of traffic that you want?

I refuse to watch video snippets that are bombarded with “oh what a great company we are” and “we have this many happy customers” etc. Let’s face it - how many of us enjoy watching adverts?

So how can you use video snippets effectively now?

Take a look at Photoshop TV
Their program is downloaded by over 2 million viewers per month. The program is aimed at people who use Adobe Photoshop. Their sponsors range from stock imagery websites to writing tablet manufacturers.

Each sponsor not only has their logo plastered across the screen, but they also have the opportunity to promote new products that coincide with a tutorial the presenters may be giving.

Downloading programs like Photoshop TV to your iPod is a new concept, but it’s one that is growing at a massive rate. So it is this form of video advertising that I think will benefit most businesses.

As for putting a video snippet on a homepage of your website - I think this is a waste of money and time. They say you’ve got 15 seconds to grab someones attention with a website, I don’t think a video is an effective way of doing this.

Getting your website listed on Google

A common question for us in relation to online marketing is - How do I get my website listed on Google?

Our response to a query like this is that it is not enough for your website to be indexed by Google to get traffic to your website. The website must also be optimised for phrases relating to your business so that you can be found when someone searches for your services.

But, if you insist on wanting to simply get your site indexed by Google, here are a few things that you can do.

  1. Use the Google Add URL page
Anyone can add their site to the Google Add URL page (Click here to view). I’m not a fan of this and in some cases feel this does more damage than good for new sites. But none the less, the facility is there!
  2. Add your site to Search Directories
You should do this anyway as the more links you get the better! This will take longer to get you indexed as most directories take a while to update their databases. Steer clear of directories that don’t link directly to your website (some directories link to themselves and then redirect the user when they click a link). Also, when adding to directories, try add your website to a category with a high pagerank.
  3. Get a links from other websites
This is by far the best thing to do. But any old site is not good enough. The PAGE (not website) you get a link on should ideally have a pagerank of 4 or more to be worthwhile. You should be picked up by and indexed within a couple of days with this scenario.

For checking the pagerank of websites download the Google Toolbar.
