Flash sites aren’t all bad
I’ve never been a fan of flash websites. I must admit the first time I saw a flash website, it blew me away, simply because it was something new and exciting in the world of the Internet. It was a huge step from plain text websites that I started viewing many moons ago.
I guess I lost interest in flash websites as the fad got old and I realised how difficult it would be to create a successful website. This was mainly due to how to diffucult it was to generate traffic from search engines to flash sites, because of search engines ability to index the content within them.
Today I came across a website that is a great example of how a well thought-out flash website can capture the publics imagination and in return generate a huge amount of traffic, through people talking about it. It’s like one of those rare TV adverts that people love and talk about to everyone they meet.
www.greatpockets.com is the website - give it a minute and play as much of it as you can. When you visit the site first, it will look like your typical flash website, but seriously give it time, you will be impressed (especially if you are a web developer/designer that understands the complexity of creating something like this).
