A few months ago, I wrote about these new Starview boxes that allow you to get access to all NTL digitals channels, with a basic NTL analogue connection (illegally of course). I did my own research at that stage and found that they worked a dream.
Since then, I’ve been keeping my eye on developments on this front, hoping that I am proven right that NTL will actually find a way to prevent this. So far, everything NTL do to counteract this has been simply a waste of time. The speed at which the developers of the software for these boxes can find a way around the changes is phenomenal, which causes a minimal distruption to service. I’m sure it would be a nightmare for most users of the box to find out ways to get round these changes, but for the technical savvy, it’s a simple task.
Anyway, a friend of mine purchased one of the new Starview box’s, now called TheBox or Starview 2. This guy is as technical as an apple and instead of trying to figure it out himself, took the easy option of calling on me. So, I went and had a look at TheBox for him.
Although it’s more expensive than the original Starview, it’s not much different at all. Specifications are exactly the same, even though it’s advertised as being an upgrade. Looking closely at the system, the only change really is the EPG (Electronic Programming Guide). In the past, when you scrolled thorough the channels to see what was on next, it would also change the channel. Very frustrating and quite useless! Now though, you can scroll through the channels to see what’s on, without changing channel. Another new addition is the time beside the info for each channel and it also shows what’s on next.

I have one starview which is working gr8 from last one year.
Now I want to buy one with hard disk. I would be very thankful if you will advise which one should i go for?
Eurovox EX5000 PVR or the TheBOX Super USB MK4?
#2 by Starview Rules! at December 18th, 2008

ali as i said before both the ex5000 and super usb have one tuner in their boxes therefore if you want to record it is possible but only recording on the same tp that recording that the current channel is on, starview pvr has two tuners so multi viewing and recording is possible.up to you what you want.starview 4 is very good i personally find for recording.especially since a small memory stick can do recording for you at a cheap rate rate, again its up to you and what you want to spend your money on,have to remember also, whatever is shown is usually shown on tv 5 or 6 times during the wk anyway so is recording even that necessary??!not in my opinon anyway!!!

I have starview 3 in Cork. Have had problems today, almost all channels are not working (apart from R*E1 AND SELOTANTA Ireland). When i go to other channels it says “data is being updated…[xx%]”. I have waited until it has reached 240%? but still nothing happening.
I have tried most of the suggestions that I found on this blog. I know a neighbour is having the same problem, so it does not appear be a problem with my box specifically. Can anyone help?

Mine was back this morning, but is gone again this afternoon.
I am just wondering if it is a general problem with c****s, or have they found a way to stop the box from working?
If they have found a way to stop it, is it likely the Starview Box Super can get around it, or will it require a new box – or going straight?

duck u will have to manually input the codes .. can’t post them but look around and u should find them.. google bigmac toolbar and install it is one way..

all fixes found here

@ Con, bad flash,do it again
@everyone, boxes au is very slow, switch between channels, not constantly, but quickly between 2 or 3 sports channels (those of you that have flashed the box that is) and it will kick in.

Hi Capitano1,try this.
Here’s a handy tip for anybody who has forgotten their pin code for parentall/setting lock.
Press yellow button on remote,
Go to Tuxbox Commander,
Go to /var/tuxbox/config/enigma.
Go to a file called config.
Press 3 to view.
Look for the lines.
i:/elitedvb/pins/parentallock=00000123
i:/elitedvb/pins/setuplock=00000123
These are hex numbers.
Open your Windows calculator in Scientific mode,
Click on Hex,enter the value minus the zeros in front of them,
Click on Dec and that’s your pin number.
Let me know how you get on,
Cheers,
EL LOCO

There’s no point in getting one in Ireland though as NTL doesn’t provide any stations in High Definition.

Hi Doc,
You will need to reflash the box to get it to auto roll.
If you dont know how to do this you could try the tutorials over on afterdawn.com. They are pretty good over there. But you will need a null modem and a rs connection on your PC
If you cant be bothered learning how to do that and are happy inputting the codes manually then install the bigmaq toolbar on your browser ( google bigmaq ). The toolbar updates the codes as they are changed. You just have to input them yourself. Menu – 1570 – nagravision – ch0rus prov id is 5e ( i think ) and then the new codes.
Any probs drop me a mail.

C****s MMDS, if so what are the frequencies?

frequencies for mmds are limited so if you already have roughly 93 channels including radio than thats about all your gonna get.

is it possible to by a box similar to the starveiw box that works with sky digital?????????
#39 by Damo at March 30th, 2009
| Quote
Pab,
No you cannot buy a starview that will work with Sky. In fact no box will be able to decrypt a Sky signal.
One other thing. Ntl/UPC are currently upgrading to Nagra3 which will render all these boxes ( starview, eurovox, replay etc ) useless. This has already started to happen. Setanta was switched a few weeks ago as was MUTV & LFCTV, the rest will follow. So my advise to you is to keep your money and DONT buy one of these boxes. If you really want subscription channels then I suggest you pay for them !
#40 by Starview Rules! at March 30th, 2009

fixes are being worked on just like the fix already released for the kryptview however these are only temporary until the complete switch over to nag3, may last til april, may last til end of year. even when the full switch is made, nevermind uk and eire but the whole world is waiting for this to be hacked so there are plenty of gurus working round the clock on this,if it can be made it can be broken, isn’t that what they say? 😉

The Kryptview has a fix for the moment, but I seriously doubt it will last.
That is the only box on Nthell Ireland that is working 100% however I would not waste my money buying one as they could be gone any day now.

so if these companys like starview and eurovox dont sort out a fix for upc ireland thats there loss the only reason they are not doing anything about it is that there main custom are uk but eventually virgin will change there system to nagra 3 well fuck em its better for kryptview and dont say virgin dont have money they have been around along time so enjoy while u can

once nag3 is fully rolled out not even the good ole kryptview will work
#48 by adrian at May 26th, 2009

The reason starview and eurovox havent come up with a fix is because there is no way they can do nagra 2…. i hate to say “i told you so” but i’m gonna say it anyway……. I said here to many people who asked which box etc to go for that itgate was the one… and what do ya know… thanks to the ukur team the itgate breathes fire yet again…. these boxes are still for sale and not out of stock like the kryptview however like it has been said previously when nagra 3 is rolled out may be a different story…
#49 by Starview Rules! at May 28th, 2009
| Quote
Itgate heald its breath for a while, while the krypt took over, thats why there are plenty itgates left
Itgate support IKS?
Think thats the future but dangerous, my best guess as to why nag 3 hasn’t been fully rolled out yet is sales, how many letters and phone calls have people received about phone, digital and broadband packages.
Think their making it as unattractive as possible for people to make a switch to a different provider, just my two cents anyway.
#50 by adrian at May 28th, 2009
| Quote
Perhaps, i think the delay in full roll out of n3 is more to do with damage limitation to their own ligitimate customers, most of those old pace decoders are dodgy enough with nagra 1 not to mention n2 or 3…. I have 1 here from a friend of mine that kept paying his sub even though he had a starview for couple years on mmds. I plugged it in the other day to activate his new card, all went well for about an hour then box froze up and wont come on now, 3 leds on front and thats it…
