Firefox penetration up to 38.6% in Ireland…. I doubt it…

Damien Mulley posted on his blog today about a survey that found Firefox use in Ireland has grown to 38.6%.

For me, that’s a hard statistic to swallow. How they got this figure is beyond me. But they do try to explain their methodology at the bottom of the page:
Translated text (using google translate) “The utilisation ratio of Firefox corresponds to the totality of the visits of Firefox of the period compared to the globality of the visits all confused navigators.”

Not sure what that’s supposed to mean…..

A quick view across some of our most popular client sites statistics show an average of 12-13% Firefox usage. I would imagine this figure is a lot closer to the truth than the surveys mentioned by Damien.

Although I would love Firefox to be the most popular browser used on the web, I think it will be a while yet before it really catches up on Internet Explorer.

EDIT:
Just to continue on - this blogs browser usage statistics, look like this:

  Browsers Grabber Hits Percent
MS Internet Explorer No 45893 72.2 %
Firefox No 12720 20 %
Unknown ? 3036 4.7 %
Opera No 639 1 %
Safari No 602 0.9 %
Mozilla No 469 0.7 %
Netscape No 77 0.1 %
Camino No 66 0.1 %
Konqueror No 15 0 %
K-Meleon No 15 0 %
  Others   24 0 %

Get Wii Fit with The Nintendo Wii

It the last few years, there has rarely been a time when I’ve been blown away by new technology. The last thing that struck me as innovative was the Nintendo Wii and it’s excellent new controller. For a company that I thought were dead after Sony blitz’ed the game console market, they’ve really tapped into a brand new market.

Now, they’ve gone another step forward and could potentially open up a whole new market for themselves. The Wii Fit is a new suite of games that uses a “balance board” for a new fun, active and dynamic way of playing games. It comes with many games such as aerobics, yoga and muscle stretches with main focusing on providing core workouts.

Already, the missus wants one…. that’s someone who typically hates anything to do with computers!

Have a look at the video below to see their new Wii Fit in action - looks like a whole lot of fun!

Hotlinking images helps your SEO

I came across an interesting article today on GoogleBlogoScoped about how hotlinking images had helped Michel Telendro achieve a top ranking on Googles image search for a brand new website in less than 3 weeks.

He said, “I do one of this hotlinking with one flickr image in a new domain (3 weeks, no backlinks) and in one week I was ranking #3 for that keyword in [Google Images].”

An interesting read……

Senator John McCain (the spammer)

Tagged Under : , ,

John McCain official photo portrait.

For months now I’ve been receiving spam mails from John McCain - a US senator running for Republican Presidential nomination in 2008.

Now as much as I’d love to see George W. Bush booted out of Government, that’s as far as my interest in US politics goes. I don’t care what Senator John McCain is doing, has done or what part of the US he is visiting today.

I do however care about the emails I get on a near daily basis telling me just that. So “as you do”, I kindly requested to be removed from their mailing list. However, 7 email requests later, I am still receiving this spam.

I got one reply to say I would be removed, but I have yet to be removed…

It has annoyed me now so much that I am blogging about it….. sad……
