Cool Sites : Nike Better World & Ben The Bodyguard

So much for keeping up the planned “Cool Site of the Week” section on my blog eh? I haven’t posted anything since the 10th of June 2009 no less! Well in fairness, that’s because I rarely see anything that seriously impresses me enough to do a blog article.

Over the last couple of weeks that has changed though. I have found not one, but two seriously cool websites.

Both sites use the same “scroll down” interaction, but one in particular just blew me away the first time I saw it.

Yes that was the Nike Better World website ( – now I know this site certainly isn’t the best way to approach web design from a usability point of view, but you can’t but respect what the creative team at Nike have achieved with this website. Not only is the vertical scrolling a pretty neat effect, the parallax effect just blows your mind the first time you see it. Technically it needs a well thought out vision of how it should work in theory, but coming up with the idea in the first place is just amazing.

Another good site on a similar theme is the Ben the Bodyguard website. This has been around longer than the Nike Better World site as far as I know and it too is pretty impressive in it’s concept and delivery.

Both sites are using nothing else in terms of plugins – which makes it hugely impressive.

Check them out now, you won’t be disappointed!

Cool Site : – the hotel search

Someone mentioned this site to me this morning. It’s very handy when searching for hotels all over the world.

The system itself searches the big hotel sites such as,, and, etc etc.

So if you are looking for a hotel (that’s not in New York – use for that ;)) use

New York Hotels / – site of the week!

Midtown Manhattan, New York City, from Rockefe...
Image via Wikipedia

My “coolest site of the week” section is becoming more of a biased pimp of our clients sites, but it’s my blog and I’ll do what I want (unless no-one visits it anymore I guess!).

When I have more time to focus on other sites I will, but for now this is another shameless plug for a new website we developed on behalf of DIY Travel Limited.

Their new site was lauched today with little hype, but I’m sure the guys will be planning something soon to get this site out to the mainstream.

The site is aimed at the all those Irish travellers who love to go shopping in the US every now and then. It features a great little “Shopping Guide” system that allows you to pick from a host of shops, restaurants and nightlife destinations in New York City.

Ignoring the fact that you can book from over 150 hotels, you can also book your day tours from the system too.

The guys will be giving away some great deals on their hotel bookings over the coming months, so tune in now and often to avail of these great offers.

Go have a look now even, you might be pleasantly surprised at some of the hotels on offer!
